Single Women’s Project 2017-2025 (India)
Implemented in partnership with the Integrated Development Trust, this project supported thousands of single women to build self-advocacy skills, financial independence, and confidence. Women’s groups created safe spaces for learning, peer support, and collective advocacy. Women received business loans and the tools needed to make their businesses thrive. Women’s rights, gender equality, self-care and leadership skills training contributed to shifts in attitudes, greater participation in community life, and improved resilience among women and their families.
Children’s Project 2015-2025 (India)
This decade-long project promoted quality education, livelihoods, gender equality, child protection, and child development among hundreds of marginalised rural and tribal children every year, while encouraging strong parental involvement in creating a healthy environment for child development.
Children demonstrated improved educational attainment and life skills, supported by children’s parliaments that strengthened understanding of key social issues such as gender equality, the environment, and child rights. Parent groups played an active role in child development, and increasing parental awareness, responsibility, and engagement in their children’s wellbeing and education.
Women in Agri-forestry Business Enterprises, 2022-2025 (Nepal)
Across Nepal’s far west and mid-hill regions of Jumla and Nuwakot, this 3-year project strengthened the farming practices of over 400 women, transforming subsistence farms into thriving enterprises. In partnership with Business and Professional Women Network Nepal, we supported women to access hands-on experience and training in agricultural management, including the safe use of pesticides and fertilisers, and organic farming methods. This training, paired with greater access to tools like gloves and pruning equipment, has seen many women enjoy higher crop yields and better-quality produce. 300 new agri-forestry enterprises were developed and over 370 women reported an increase in their income.
Jajal Wae Sustainable Agri-Tourism – Ngawi, 2022-2024 (Indonesia)
In Ngawi, Indonesia, women transformed local natural resources into successful enterprises and tapped into the local tourism market. Expansive skills training in product development, business management, marketing, and tour guiding – coordinated by our partner Deamdelion – opened the door for women to sell their products at the vibrant Jajal Wae Traditional Market. Local culinary delicacies – including cakes made from locally sourced flours, sweets, grass jelly drinks, and herbal teas –, vegetable hampers and woven bamboo baskets are among some of the products women developed for sale at the market. Women also took leadership of eco-tourism activities in Ngawi with ‘Jajal Wae Trips’. Using their newly acquired skills in tour guiding and product development, women led treks in the local areas, conducted herbal tea making workshops, and guided tourists through local attractions like waterfalls and parks. Beyond entrepreneurship, our project supported women’s overall wellbeing, encouraging women to participate in conversations about mental health and gender equality. Together, these efforts enabled women to flourish as entrepreneurs and leaders.
Food distribution project, 2020-2022 (India)
Together with the Integrated Development Trust, Assisi Aid Projects delivered food relief to over 2000 families during the pandemic and raised awareness about COVID-19 by the distribution of food and masks to families.
Women and Youth Leadership, 2019-2020 (Cambodia)
The project supported 853 disadvantaged women and young people aged 17–30 in Kampong Chhnang Province, including those experiencing domestic violence, harassment and abuse, women-headed households, low socio-economic status, disability, and widowhood.
Participants took part in training and workshops on leadership, advocacy skills, human rights, gender equality, gender-based violence, and financial management. Awareness-raising events were organised, along with meetings between participants and commune council members.
As a result, participants demonstrated increased knowledge of gender equality and basic human rights, greater confidence in public speaking, and improved ability to engage with local authorities and advocate for their rights and community priorities.
Women engagement in local community development, 2018-2019 (Cambodia)
The project increased the engagement and participation of women and young people in multi-stakeholder platforms on gender equality and benefit sharing in Chak Commune, Kampong Chhnang province. A total of 188 people, including 133 women facing gender-related barriers, participated in the activities.
Gender Task Force Groups strengthened their role in raising gender equality, child protection, and domestic violence issues with local authorities, leading to timely interventions. Participants worked proactively with local authorities and health care centres, and women and young people became more active in community decision-making, attending meetings and serving on committees. Local authorities and commune councils demonstrated increased openness to women’s participation and community concerns.
Sustainable livelihoods through community empowerment & eco-tourism, 2016-2018 (Cambodia)
The project supported sustainable livelihoods through community empowerment in rural Cambodia, with a focus on self-help groups and ecotourism across ten villages. By building the capacity of women, children, and community-based organisations, communities were supported to sustainably manage local resources, improve livelihoods, and reduce poverty.
Activities included training in ecotourism, financial management, bookkeeping, and the establishment and strengthening of savings groups. Awareness-raising campaigns addressed waste management, sanitation, environmental protection, and women’s leadership.
Farmers participated in exchange visits and training on livestock rearing and small vegetable gardens in flood-prone areas, with a focus on improving the quality of produce and transitioning from subsistence farming towards commercialisation.
Ecotourism activities attracted visitors, created local employment, and supported community infrastructure, including toilets for overnight trekkers.
Enhanced livelihood opportunities for single women families in Tamil Nadu, 2016-2017 (India)
In partnership with the Perambalur Social Service Society and Integrated Development Trust, the project supported 1,156 single women who experienced discrimination-related challenges, including poor health, social isolation, and poverty, to improve their financial independence. Education outcomes were also improved for 322 children.
Across 35 rural villages in Perambalur, Ariyalur, Trichy, and Kancheepuram, the project strengthened the financial independence of single women–headed households and supported children’s education and skill development. Children were supported through leadership and skills training, literacy on rights, child rights education, and livelihood-oriented activities to build confidence and future opportunities.
Widows Empowerment Project, 2015-2016 (India)
Together with the Peramular Social Service Society, we delivered livelihood training to improve the financial independence of 775 single women-headed families, in addition to delivering skill development to 533 children in leadership, literacy and child rights.
Flood Relief, 2015-2016 (India)
Following the heaviest rainfall in over a century, Assisi partnered with the Assisi Farm and Training Center to provide urgent flood relief to families in the Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu. A team of staff and volunteers mobilised quickly to deliver emergency assistance, distributing food, safe water, and essential supplies to the most affected communities. Over 10,000 kg of rice, 200 kg of dhal, 200 litres of cooking oil, along with soap, spices, and chillies were provided to 200 families, with food packs continuing to reach households to support immediate recovery and wellbeing.
Health Services Development Program, 2014-2017 (Solomon Islands)
By working closely with local partner Solutions pa Marovo, Assisi improved the level of healthcare available to the isolated and under supported areas of the Marovo Lagoon by improving access, and quality, ofhealth care services. This included renovations, new facilities and equipment, training for medical professionals, installation of a power generator, construction of a operating theatre and new accommodation for staff.
Educational Development Program, 2014-2015 (Solomon Islands)
The project aimed to strengthen community capacity to support young people to become educated, confident, and responsible members of society. It supported 160 youths aged 12–20 in the Marovo Lagoon who faced barriers to accessing and attending school.
Community workshops covered youth leadership, women’s rights and gender equity, domestic violence and child protection law, and health. In consultation with youth development committees, direct assistance was provided to students through a scholarship program, including payment of tuition fees and support with administrative requirements. High school teachers also participated in training workshops.
As a result, access to education improved, school capacity was strengthened, and overall education outcomes increased. Young people demonstrated greater confidence in decision-making and increased awareness of their rights and gender equity within their communities.
Enhancing Livelihood Opportunities for Single Women, 2014-2015 (India)
This project focused on improving livelihood opportunities for 343 single women heading households in rural India. Working with Perambular Social Service Society, Assisi established six women’s support groups and delivered income generation training for women in tailoring, farming and animal raising. This was supported by loans, financial managing training, psychological counselling, and assisting eligible women to access widow’s pensions.
Improved livelihood opportunities & holistic development of disadvantaged children, 2014-2015 (India)
Together with the Assisi Farm and Training Centre and Integrated Development Trust, the project supported children to access health services and quality education, while building awareness of child rights, life skills, and leadership. Over 670 children aged 12–18 in the Kancheepuram district, facing barriers to basic education, limited awareness of child health, and financial disadvantage, participated in the program.
Evening study groups focused on leadership, child rights, debate, gender equality, health, hygiene, and environmental awareness. Children also joined savings groups to build financial management skills and eco-clubs that established kitchen gardens and led community awareness rallies. Parents were engaged through education sessions on child health and education.
Scholarship Program, 2013-2015 (India)
Through a partnership with Assisi Farm and Training Center in India, this scholarship program supported 63 students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access higher education who otherwise would not have been able to attend university. Financial assistance reduced barriers to attendance and completion, enabling students to continue their studies with greater security. The program contributed to long-term outcomes by expanding educational and employment opportunities for young people.
Womens empowerment project, 2013-2014 (India)
Assisi Aid Projects partnered with the Assisi Farm & Training Centre in Tamil Nadu to improve the livelihoods of 3,587 rural women through a range of trainings, empowering women towards sustainable development. As a result, women accessed bank loans and established small businesses to strengthen their economic independence.
Training and awareness-raising sessions were conducted within women’s groups on women’s health, general health, hygiene, ante- and post-natal care, and non-communicable diseases. Parent meetings were also held to discuss and raise awareness of children’s health and hygiene, and an addiction awareness programme was organised.
Menstrual health was a strong and consistent focus across all trainings, focus group discussions, and project activities. Free menstrual health products were also provided to adolescents.
Widows Empowerment Project, 2013-2014 (India)
Delivered in partnership with Perambular Social Service Society, this project supported 228 widowed women to improve their economic security and social inclusion. Through training, group formation, and access to loans and financial support, women strengthened their confidence, financial skills, and collective voice. The project also supported access to government pensions, helping women meet essential needs.
Child Empowerment Project, 2013-2014 (India)
Together with the Perambular Social Service Society, the project supported 510 children aged 8–16 facing educational barriers through skill development, evening study centres, and child parliaments. Children and parents received training on child protection, rights, sexual health, waste management, media use, and non-communicable disease awareness.
Holistic community development project in Tamil Nadu, 2012-2013 (India)
The project strengthened the capacity of women to participate in community development and improve their livelihoods.
A total of 700 women received training in financial management, supporting stronger economic decision-making and income generation. Self-help groups were established and enhanced to train women in financial management and to diversify their methods of income, providing skills and technical expertise to enable positive change within their communities.
In the Kancheepuram district, 350 children benefited from the launch of education programs delivered through 10 tuition centres. Education programs for children were further strengthened through the establishment of 22 child parliaments, supporting children’s participation and leadership.
Awareness-raising activities were conducted on sanitation, conservation, gender equity, disability, and health, with a specific focus on non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.
Medical camps and health information sessions and trainings were also conducted to improve access to health services and knowledge at the community level.
Community development and sustainable livelihoods, 2011 – 2016 (Cambodia)
In partnership with Live & Learn Environmental Education Cambodia, this y-year project strengthened women’s economic and environmental resilience by establishing savings and self-help groups and supporting female entrepreneurs to develop sustainable microenterprises. Participants received training in financial management, business skills, marketing, and microenterprise development, alongside access to small loans to support income-generating activities in areas such as ecotourism, food security, and agriculture. The project also built skills in organic and sustainable farming, raised awareness of environmental protection and biodiversity, and supported education and literacy through classes and learning materials. By combining livelihoods, education, and environmental stewardship, the project delivered lasting benefits that continue beyond the life of the program.
Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, 2011 –2015 (Timor-Leste)
Assisi partnered with the Alola Foundation to deliver the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies (SHIO) program across the Baucau and Lautem districts of Timor-Leste, improving access to safe motherhood and newborn care for communities facing significant health barriers. The project directly benefited 27,577 people by strengthening maternal and child health services from family planning through early childhood, including antenatal and postnatal care, safe deliveries with skilled birth attendants, and child vaccination.
Assisi Self-Help Group, 2010-2013, Cambodia
This 3-year project supported women in six remote communities across the Baa Atoll and Thaa Atoll region to develop sustainable enterprise opportunities linked to local agriculture. Female farmers strengthened their skills through training in financial management, legal rights, health, and advocacy, alongside gender awareness activities that engaged men and supported more inclusive community outcomes. Self-help groups were established to create income-generating activities using locally grown crops, increasing household resilience and economic independence. The project also supported access to formal education for children, helping families invest in long-term wellbeing and opportunity.
